The Packers hit Ray Nitschke Field Tuesday for the first of their nine practices, politely called the Organized Team Activities. Head Coach Mike McCarthy was pleased with the high turnout for the voluntary workouts. Rookies joined veterans for the first time and even after one session, McCarthy is convinced he's headed for the most competitive training camp in his 7 years as coach. First round pick Nick Perry of USC, a defensive end in college, worked with the first team defense at left outside linebacker. Clay Matthew moved over to where he started as a rookie on the right side. Jerel Worthy is also getting into the mix early on the defensive line, jumping in with starters in the nickel package. On offense, it's a big month for quarterback Graham Harrell, the early line favorite to win the number two job behind Aaron Rodgers now that Matt Flynn is plying his trade in Seattle. The team will work out in shorts and helmets through the three weeks of OTA's, three practices a week. A three day, mandatory mini-camp awaits in June giving McCarthy a total of 12 practices to assess his talent before they break for training camp in July.
