The Packers final week of training camp began with a Sunday workout moved inside the Hutson Center because of a steady rain. Practices will take place Monday and Tuesday and that'll be it. The final exam comes Thursday night against the Kansas City Chiefs at Lambeau Field. Mike McCarthy said after Sunday's practice, the final 10 cuts to reach the NFL roster limit of 75 will be announced on Monday. The first five cuts included a pair of veterans, Anthony Hargrove and Herb Taylor. GM Ted Thompson signed Hargrove as an unrestricted free agent from Seattle, knowing full well he might face discipline over his role in the bounty scandal in New Orleans. Hargrove was suspended eight games and despite an enthusiastic demeanor on Ray Nitschke field and in the locker room, it was apparent the Packers were more satifsifed with what the young defensive linemen in camp would offer without missing half the season. Taylor was given opportunities to claim the backup swing tackle spot, starting one pre-season game, but wasn't up to the task. Also released on Friday were Dion Turner, Andrew Brewer and Michah Pellerin. Linebacker Desmond Bishop may be one of the roster moves. McCarthy had indicated a decision on whether to place him on season ending injured reserve was being contemplated. As for Sunday's practice, it's gotten very tight at the tight end position. Only two healthy tight ends were available, Jermichael Finley, a bit weary after the birth of his son London last week, and free agent Brian Bostick. McCarthy tapped the defense for help, using Vic So'oto and Jamari Lattimore for scout team drills. Tom Crabtree, Ryan Taylor, D.J. Williams and DeMarco Cosby are all sporting minor injuries. On the link below, comments from the coach and players about the crazy days at tight end and a couple of young defensive backs getting into and hoping to get back into the mix in the secondary.
