The Packers have indeed released 13 year veteran defensive back Al Harris.  General Manager Ted Thompson announced the move at mid-morning.  In a statement released by the team, Thompson said, "We want to thank Al for his contributions to the Green Bay Packers.  His hard work, dedication and professionalism have been the keys to his success.  During his time here, he has been a valuable member of our organization and our community.  We wish him the very best in the future and he will always be a part of the Packer family."   Harris was acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles by then head coach and GM Mike Sherman in 2003 for a second round draft pick.  He started all 102 games he played for the Packers in his 7 years with the team until he severely injured his knee last November against San Francisco.  After undergoing reconstructive surgery, Harris was placed on the physically unable to perform list, missing the first 6 weeks of this season.  After practicing the past three weeks, the deadline to either activate Harris, place him on injured reserve or waive him arrived today.  Harris made two Pro Bowl appearances with the Packers (2007, 2008) and set a single season record for passes defensed with 28 in 2004.  He had 14 career interceptions while with the Packers, the most notable, the overtime pick for 6 to beat Seattle in the 2003 playoff game at Lambeau Field.  Here are some comments from Mike McCarthy on the release of Harris.
