Reverse Flashdance?

Posted by Jerry Bader on

Reminds me of a Flashdance spoof skit where Rodney Dangerfield was a dancer who wanted to be a welder. Actually, certain types of welding have been in great need of workers for years. As this piece points out, the need for welders is projected to grow 15% in the next 7 years and some have argued technical colleges have kept up with demand in supplying welders.

Something interesting here:

Female students have completed the college's welding program, and Frock said it's true that they do have a finer, lighter touch.

Is it okay to generalize a characteristic to all women when it's a positive one? After all, we're chastised for generalizing women in a certain way when it comes to combat. Is it a stereotype to say "they" do have a finer, lighter touch? Just wondering.
