So says Gunnery Sergeant Jesse Jane Duff, 20 years active, USMC. She raises here what I consider to be the critical issue; will both genders be held to one standard? Everybody seems to be saying yes, but will it work that way in practice? Some women will meet the physical standards but it's unlikely that they will in the same percentage that men will.
Yes, there are women who are more fit to meet the combat requirements than I am. The point is they wouldn't take me. Will there be pressure to allow more women than can meet that single standard? Have women in firefighting and law enforcement provided any guidance on this?
