U.S. Senator Ron Johnson got into a heated exchange today with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton today over the administration's lack of candor on the Benghazi attacks of 9/11/12. Wemple state's well why motive does make a difference. The administration essentially denies now that it denied at the onset that Benghazi was a terrorist attack, but it did. And what also has been lost is how hard both Mrs. Clinton and President Obama pushed this narrative in the early hours after the attack.
As Wemple notes, most of the media has not only given the administration a pass on this, but it has given cover. The Post has been one outlet that has applauded Fox News for digging where others feared to go. It's clear here that Madame Secretary has no interest in the public being reminded of this dishonesty, to the point that she wouldn't let Johnson finish the question.
Yes, the media has been left leaning for at least the last 70 years. But even then they held power to scrutiny, even if it was liberal power. Not anymore. And I would argue this change is even as recent as Bill Clinton to Barack Obama. Yeah, they helped through Monicagate by depicting Republicans as sex obsessed when Clinton's perjury had nothing to do with sex.
But with Benghazi the MSM has been in full "nothing to see here citizens, move along" mode. Remember, "bin Laden is dead and GM is alive" was the unofficial campaign slogan of team Obama. Benghazi damaged that narrative, so the MSM had to squelch it until November 6. But now that Obama is safely re-elected they could finally do their jobs on this, but apparently have no intentions of so doing.
