In fact, this piece, shared by a loyal listener, could be one of the best I've ever read on the issue. Almost every point Heller makes here is an excellent one, but two are critical. First, the notion that the Founders couldn't have imagined technological advances is laughable. Those living in the 18th century had technological advances those living in the late 15th or early 16th centuries couldn'thave imagined. Yes, you could argue that they could not conceive of the precise weaponry advances that have been realized in the last 240 or so years, but they certainly knew weapons would get faster and more powerful. That had already been the goal for centuries.

Equally critical is his argument this: anti-gun vs. anti-rights:

As a fundamental civil right, the right to keep and bear arms has some natural enemies - people who want to aggrandize the power of the state over the power of the individual. While there are example of this on both the left and the right, the FACT remains that anyone who is so prejudiced against your fundamental right, is by definition, a bigot. A bigot who is against your rights, is by definition, an anti-rights bigot. They are not anti-gun, because they do not object to the guns on the side of soldiers and police. They are anti-rights, because they are against the idea of you being at parity of small arms with your government. That is a classic example of bigotry.
