Actually, the crime is showing anybody your completed ballot, and I'm not surprised that there were those on both sides that didn't know this; I'm pretty sure I didn't. It does also make sense though, that a completed ballot could serve as "proof of purchase" of a vote. Another place where the social networks and existing law, clash, aided by early voting.
