Because "illegal immigrant" is now a racial slur, apparently. The initial attempt was to simply blur "immigrant" and "illegal immigrant" into "immigrant." So when you spoke of limiting "illegal immigration" you were trying to limit all imigration. Economic refugee plays right into the current Obama administration strategy of essentially decriminalizing illegal immigration by Presidential decree.

This is the same movement that supports open borders. Who wouldn't welcome refugees?
