Via Hot Air If the reports are true he bolted at the last minute, this makes sense. It also obliterates Roberts' and the Court's integrity. William McGurn in today's Wall Street Journal reminded readers that during his confirmation process in 2005 Roberts likened his duty to an umpire, calling balls and strikes.

McGurn posited that Roberts changed his call due to crowd reaction. It appears he has this exactly right. Roberts had his right foot up, arm cocked, about to make a flamboyant called out on strikes motion, and then he called it a ball. And justice and the nation struck out.
