Gun Paranoia in Full Bloom

Posted by Jerry Bader on

A Long Island newspaper published a map with the locations of legally permitted gun owners. This, of course, was accompanied by the scare the crap out of you story about "what you don't know about the weapons in your neighborhood. You will note, we're not talking "assault weapons" here, we're talking guns, period. The crux of this story is that people have the right to know everything about guns other people have. This could be the worst example yet I've seen (shared by a listener on Facebook) of the media going off the deep end over guns.

All of this grows from the information concerning the guns that Nancy Lanza, mother of Newtown shooter Adama Lanza kept in the house. Few have mourned her; no bell tolled for her. She is seen by many as culpable in the shootings because she owned the guns. And there have been stories in the media already about whether guns and children should be in the same home.

It'll be interesting to see how many papers around the country copy this story. There are a reported 270 million guns in America. Should Americans be shocked to learn of the number of gun owners living near them? Clearly, the media thinks yes. And they want you to be damned afraid of those guns too.
