It's hard to imagine this is under serious consideration. It would, I feel, dramatically change the nature of the game. But the real story here is the motivation for the change; player safety. It's becoming clear that the NFL feels the game as it exists today is simply too dangerous too continue, but it won't admit that publicly. So there is this drip, drip, drip strategy of changing the rules to make the game safer, slowly watering down the game until it's not even close to the game as it exists today.
Look at the penalties for hits on quarterbacks, and this is something going on at both the pro and college levels. If an officials sees a qb's head snap, the flag comes out. Often times the replay shows it was a perfectly legal hit. Rush Limbaugh has been talking for months about how they're trying to take away the game as it exists today. I criticized him for that. I was wrong.
