I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like this. The more Akin signals he's staying strong, the bigger the names that line up to tell him to go. If 5:01 PM Central comes and Akin is still in the race, what in the hell does he do then? His entire party has told him to leave. He's been told he'll get no money. He'll become an anvil around the presidential ticket, particularly Paul Ryan.
Whether he thinks it's fair or not, Akin has to realize he's been banished. The only scene more bizarre than this would be the one where he wins and Republicans have to deal with him after declaring him persona non grata.
