...Carney told the White House Prese corps this morning. I was among those who found it unlikely that President Obama would dump Biden. If Carney's being honest here, it'll be interesting to see how muzzled "Wild Joe" is from here on out. They can try to spin this, but even some friendlies have criticized the "chains" comment. Obama is truly between a rock and a hard place here...
Dump Biden and you're admitting a four year mistake. Keep him and he's the gift that keeps on giving to Republicans and it appears the media is less willing to stick with the "oh, that's just Joe" mantra that they have used for decades. It's a win/win for Romney/Ryan but I think keeping him is probably the bigger win of the two. Every day Ryan looks brilliant is another day Biden looks dumber than the day before. Ryan is shining much brighter than pretty much anybody expected. The contrast could be so stark by the time the veeps debate on October 11 that about all Biden could do at that point is actually help his cause if he's any less dismal than people would expect by that point.
But the greatest political reality for Obama is that if people start seriously wondering whether Joe Biden is capable of being president, it very well could be a large factor in November.
