Two former NFL coaches who now get paid to talk for a living said recently that whether or not Brett Favre return's for a 20th NFL season would depend on the health of an ankle he injured in the NFC Championship game. Favre says that's not true. Favre says while surgery may be needed, it would be relatively minor and he says this is far from the worst pain he's ever played through.
That last part is probably true, but it's hard to believe that this isn't a factor. He was pounded mercilessly in the NFC Title game and I believe teams will use that as a template for playing the Vikings if he returns. In the meantime, the annual ritual of spring "Will Brett or won't Brett" and I don't have to care, much, because he's not on my team. I'd be lying if I said I didn't care at all, because I really do want him to come back; I'd love the Packers to have two more shots at him. You can take the meaning of the word "shots" any way you'd like.
