Peggy Noonan on The Violence and Threats of Violence

She contends leaders should stop "hitting the beehive with a stick." Her point is, yes people are angry it's our leaders making us angry. As people become angry as their freedom is stripped away, you will see more of this she argues. She also argues that these threats aren't new; but the left's publicizing of them is. Hoyer definitely used this for political gain. Noonan's right; threats come with the territory of public life, talk show hosts included. I was threatened last fall in advance of a tea party in Sheboygan. I made the organizers aware of it, but certainly never would have gone public with it at the time, and wouldn't have ever, except to make a point here.

Publiczing exacerbates the situation, and as I said on the air yesterday, it also could encourage liberals to do it in an effort to harm the other side. Noonan is right however, poilticians would do well to stop making people angry. It certainly doesn't justify the actions of anybody, on either side, who stoop to violence or threats of violence. But her point is politicians would do well to understand what they're doing to start this fire. And liberals would do well not to fan the flames.
