This story is out of the Milwaukee area, and it explains perfectly why libs don't like the Arizona Immigration law. Check this out from Christine Neumann-Ortiz of Voces de la Frontera: (emphasis mine)
"In the past few years, we have seen a disturbing trend of escalated arrests of non-criminal immigrants who, through collaboration of local law enforcement agencies and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), end up in deportation proceedings," she wrote in a letter to Milwaukee County Board Chairman Lee Holloway and other county supervisors.
Voces has "documented dozens of cases in the past 12 months in which immigrants, arrested for traffic violations or crime for which they were later found innocent, are now facing deportation," she wrote.
So Neumann-Ortiz believes that people here illegally should not be deported if they're stopped for minor offenses. In fact, the notion of immigration law being enforced is so distasteful to her, she demands an investigation into why it's happening!!!! Makes you wonder: just HOW serious does a crime have to be for an illegal immigrant to be deported in her world?
This also puts the lie to the liberal angst over the AZ law. Sure, concern over racial profiling isn't entirely unwarranted, but at the end of the day, they simply don't want immigration law as it exists enforced at all.
