Yes, the Green Bay Preble Hornets are headed to the WIAA Boys State Baseball tournament for the first time in 14 years and they got there with a resounding No.
Senior Caleb Schoenholtz fired a no hitter in Preble’s 6-0 victory over Green Bay East/West to deliver the first sectional championship since 2002.
Another senior, Ryan Dougherty cracked an RBI double in the first inning for the only run Schoenholtz would need.
The Hornets defeated Wausau West 7-6 in 8 innings to reach the title game. East/West ended Bay Port’s four year run to state with a 13-1 semifinal win.
In another Divison 1 sectional, West De Pere upset Appleton North 5-3 in the semifinals but fell to Kimberly in the title game 15-1.
In Division 2, Waupaca earned a trip to state by beating Oconto Falls 8-3 and in Division 4, NEW Lutheran knocked off Burlington Catholic Central 7-6 to earn it’s first ever trip to state.
The WIAA Baseball Tournament begins Tuesday at Fox Cities Stadium.
